To close the year I'm sharing my personal favorite interviews, these conversations left me with pages of notes and contemplations for ways to improve my own life. The second episode in this series is in loving memory of Robert Rabbin, the author of a beautifully written collection of books, my favorite being The 5 Principles of Authentic Living: How to Live an Authentic Life in 10 Words. I featured Robert in my cancer series as a source of inspiration, he shares his story of how he was given a diagnosis of stage 4 lung cancer and was told to get his affairs in order with a max 6 months to live. Robert as a result of not accepting the doctor opinion and choosing not to identify as a cancer patient went on to live another 5 years.

I'm replaying this episode because it is a year ago this month he passed, only a couple of weeks after I interviewed him here. Robert leaves us with so many gems in this conversation, mostly around the power of language and using love as a language that can change not only a diagnosis, but our entire lives.

      • There’s an average of $3,000 of unplanned expenses per year.
      • If you spend the exact amount that you make and you want to go on vacation, you end up putting it on a credit card.

      • Savings accounts are for future spending.

        • Financial freedom is just time freedom.
          • It can only be attained through investing, not earning.

        • If we’re earning $250,000 you might still feel broke because you’re on the hamster wheel of “earn, spend.”
          • Your planned expenses will then go up and your credit card bills and balances will also go up.
